Software Innovation must to tap software export potential, says Satyam chief V. Rishi Kumar
Mr B. Ramalinga Raju
Hyderabad , April 6 INDIA has the potential to transform the current $18 billion in software exports to hundreds of billions dollars provided it innovates and strengthens the foundation required to meet such challenging opportunities. "This calls for a concerted effort by the policymakers, industry and academia collaborative initiatives by addressing areas of human resource development, creating right leadership and building the necessary infrastructure, both physical and soft," according to Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, Chairman of Satyam Computer Services Ltd. In barely 15 years, the IT sector has acquired a critical mass where over one million people are currently employed directly and impacting many more millions indirectly. Large service providers, including TCS, Infosys, Wipro and Satyam, have contributed significantly through social objectives and, thereby, effectively reaching several other millions across the country with other social initiatives. As a representative of Nasscom, the industry would endeavour to transform this sector to one that earns hundreds of billions of dollars worth of exports, , he said. The Satyam Chairman, who was recently nominated as the Vice-Chairman of Nasscom, told Business Line that the industry needs to groom leaders. However, the future growth will be defined by the level of innovation the industry can bring in. The Indian technology sector has clear edge in terms of services they offer. As a representative of the Nasscom, Mr Raju said, "We look forward to working with the Government closely and address areas of concern such as physical infrastructure, while addressing soft infrastructure from the industry perspective."
