THE Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry has recommended the discontinuation of the definitive anti-dumping duty on imported hydroxyl amine sulphate (HAS) from the European Union, the US and Japan, after a mid-term review.
In a recent notification issued here, it said that in response to the original applicant Deepak Nitrite, which sought the anti-dumping duty and which subsequently sought its termination, the authority held that the domestic industry has submitted that it has improved its performance and it does not suffer any material injury.
Further, it was stated that the prices that have been offered by the domestic industry are lower than the landed cost of the imported product after the imposition of anti-dumping duties. The imposition of the anti-dumping duty has not served to benefit the domestic industry in any manner, importers said before the authority.
It was further contended that there are a number of units in the country, which import the product under consideration to manufacture the end-product of SMX/SMZ or other drug, were forced to shut down due to non-viability of the HAS industry. After weighing all these factors, the authority recommended the discontinuation of the definitive anti-dumping duty on imported HAS.
