Infrastructure `Priority for infrastructure development' Our Bureau
Mangalore , April 3 THE Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Siddaramaiah, has said that the State Government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the conversion of Hassan-Mangalore railway line into a broad-gauge one. The Government will sanction another Rs 7 crore in the current financial year. Replying to the demands of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) at an interactive session here , he said the Government is giving priority for infrastructure development in the State. Karnataka is one of the major shareholders in Bangalore International Airport Project and metro rail project. When Mr Siddaramaiah was requested to release Rs 10 crore to rehabilitate the families to be displaced by Mangalore airport expansion work, he said the Infrastructure Department did not make any request in this regard while formulating the budget proposals. However, he assured KCCI members that positive steps would be initiated in this matter. Development of Mysore-Mangalore highway will also be taken up in 2005-06, he said. In an informal chat with presspersons later, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the Government has banned online lotteries in the State. To a reported statement of a State Minister that the Government will ban all the lotteries in the State in six months, he said there will not be single-digit lotteries in the State. With regard to other lotteries, the Government will review the situation after six months, he added.
