Bill introduced for veterinary varsity at Tirupati

A BILL providing for the establishment of a veterinary university at Tirupati was introduced in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

As per the Bill, a separate Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) would be carved out of the existing Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Hyderabad to exclusively focus on veterinary and fishery education.

Introducing the Bill in the Assembly, the Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, Mr G. Surya Rao, said that a committee of experts was constituted to study the feasibility of establishing a separate veterinary university.

He said that the ANGRAU had consented to transfer its three veterinary colleges at Rajahmundry, Tirupati and Gannavaram, the College of Fishery Science at Muthukur, the Dairy Technology Unit at Tirupati and its livestock and fishery research stations along with staff and budget.
