FCI floats tender for foodgrain sale

THE Food Corporation of India (FCI) has floated tender inviting bids for the sale of about 5.71 lakh tonnes of foodgrains available at its depots/regions.

According to trade sources, the sale list includes 5,51,300 tonnes of maize, 12,640 tonnes jowar, 5,070 tonnes bajra and 200 tonnes of broken rice.

Majority of grains offered for sale is of current season 2004-05.

The small quantity of grains especially jowar and maize offered for sale is of crop year 2003-04 and 2002-03, a trader said.

FCI has also invited tenders for the sale of 3,042 tonnes rice grade `ABC' category.

The prescribed tender forms could be obtained from the respective regional offices on payment basis separately for each commodity.
