Dr Reddy's welcomes Patents Bill

Hyderabad , March 24

DR Reddy's Laboratories Ltdhas welcomed the Patents Bill.

In a statement, its Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, Mr Satish Reddy, said, "We are glad that India has met the TRIPS commitments. The amendments will encourage innovation in the pharmaceutical industry by ensuring that they are protected.

"The amendments make it quite clear that while innovation must be protected, frivolous patents intended to delay the entry of generics would not be permitted and this is in the interest of the public.

"The good start that has been made needs to be sustained by bringing up the examination and issue procedures in the patent office to international standards," Mr Reddy said.
