Malaysian co in fray for MRTS construction

Hyderabad , March 24

MAGNA Allmore, a Malaysia-based infrastructure projects company, has entered the fray for constructing a mass rail transit system (MRTS) in Hyderabad.

The company has submitted a proposal to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, through a letter of expression of interest.

The company recommended that Shamshabad and Hi-Tec City should be connected through MRTS, apart from the proposed corridor of Kukatpally to L. B. Nagar and Hi-Tec City to Ghatkesar via Secunderabad.

The project, for a 33-km stretch, would cost a maximum of Rs 4,000 crore.

"This recommendation is based on potential traffic bottlenecks on these routes in the years to come," Mr S. Nagaraj, Director and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Magna Allmore, said.

Announcing the company's bid for the project, he said it offered to undertake consultancy, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of contract, including total financing.

The Government will have equity in the project by providing the right of way.

The proposed system is a solution to decongest the traffic in Hyderabad. It will consist of light rail transit, mono rail, a dedicated bus service and utilisation of the existing multi-modal transport system, he said in a press release.
