Letters Poverty made worse
What is striking about the recent Budget is that it has absolutely no impact on the life style of the under privileged sections of society. If anything it has only increased their struggles. The Finance Minister has devised ingenious ways of taxing people to increase revenue. As a consequence, the prices of several commodities will go up leading to cost push inflation. Such price increases will be explained away as the natural outcome of a growing economy. This would perhaps be better understood by the upper and middle class sections that can afford to bear the increase. But the poorer sections who do not understand the complexity of the Budget, are the worst affected. The government can ease their plight by curbing non-productive investment. N.S.
