Toddy tappers measure toddy for supply to toddy shops at the backwaters of Kochi. As per the excise policy announced for the next financial year, the State government has increased the licence fee for toddy shops. The fee for toddy shops employing 20 or more workers and having a rent of Rs 1 lakh or more will be raised by 15 per cent and for the other toddy shops by 25 per cent. The number of toddy shops will be restricted to the number licensed and functioning currently.
