`Tsunami Court' in Prakasam district

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , March 20

BATTUSOMAYAPALEM, a village in Prakasam district, will have a novel court named `Tsunami Court'. In fact, it is not a court but a cluster of houses built for some of the tsunami victims.

While the district administration allotted land to house the `court', financial resources were provided by the judges, judicial officers, other staff and advocates of Andhra Pradesh High Court and subordinate courts.

With a view to providing succour to the victims, the Chief Justice took the initiative and encouraged the judges and staff to chip in their mite for the cause. A total of Rs 26.95 lakh was collected.

Instead of spending the money on temporary relief works, the Chief Justice felt that the resources should be used to construct houses. This resulted in the decision to construct houses.
