Egg rates cut by 5 paise

Our Bureau

Coimbatore , March 18

THE farm-gate price of table egg is down by five paise at Rs.1.15 per unit this week.

Namakkal zonal committee of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC), in its weekly price review meet held on Thursday, has chosen to retain this rate for a week. The next price review meet of the committee is scheduled for March 24.

According to Dr P. Selvaraj, NECC's Zonal committee chairman, the egg market was expected to improve by next week due to the ensuing `Holi' festivities in northern India falling during March 25-26.

Easter celebrations too would add to the demand as the egg trade would get more orders from Kerala market beginning next week.

The broiler price in retail market has shown improvement by Rs 8 a kg in one week.

Taking all these factors, the NECC has decided to reduce the egg rate only by five paise this week.

A stable wholesale egg rate for the next one week will also help increase the egg shipment from the region, Dr Selvaraj said in a statement.
