THE Andhra Pradesh Government has constituted a committee of officials to study various options and make recommendations for evolving a comprehensive transportation strategy to solve traffic problems in the State capital.

The committee would also examine the feasibility and viability of the proposed Metro Rail Project, the Minister for Municipal Administration, Mr K. Ranga Rao, said.

Replying to a question raised by Mr P. Janardhana Reddy in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, the Minister said that the officials committee would also invite reputed Indian and foreign companies to make a presentation with regard to the establishment of a metro rail system (MRS) in Hyderabad.

He said that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has conducted a traffic survey and prepared a project report for implementation of MRS in the city. It had identified two corridors, Miyapur to Chaitanyapuri and Secunderabad to Falaknuma, for construction of MRS. The project was estimated to cost Rs 4,206 crore.

As per the DMRC report, the Minister said, it would take five years to complete the project from the date of its commencement.
