JINDAL Vijaynagar Steel Ltd (JVSL) has plans to increase its capacity to 10 million tonnes by the year 2010. Currently the company has reached a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes.

Stating this here on Thursday, Mr Srinivas Batni, Chief General Manager (Marketing), JVSL, Torangal, said the key to competitive business in steel would be marketing and dedicated approach to innovative practices.

Speaking at a day-long seminar organised here by The Hindu Business Line, he said the marketing man was the key link between the consumer and the producer. Marketing not only played a crucial role in facing challenges of globalisation, but also helped in tackling the competition by adopting the right strategy.

Commitment and focused approach to marketing was the common strain of the speakers at the seminar held at the Post Graduate Centre of the Gulbarga University here.

The seminar, which is the first in the series organised by the The Hindu Business Line, was for the benefit of the students of the MBA.

Dr Ramesh Gopal, Managing Director of Vijayakrishna Granite and a leading exporter, spoke about the `export marketing strategies' and said in the globalised market, exports was not difficult if right strategies with right choice of goods to targeted market were made.

Stating that honesty, sincerity, determination and commitment was very essential to win over business contract and emerge as a successful exporter, Dr Gopal said, "don't compromise on quality" as this would affect the export prospects.

He said that adapting IT would help in adding efficiency and cost benefits to exporters.
