Tuticorin Port cargo traffic rises 3.1 pc in February

Madurai , March 9

THE Tuticorin Port Trust (TPT) has handled a total traffic of 11.35 lakh tonnes during February, an increase of 3.09 per cent compared to last year during the same period.

Imports accounted for 8.06 lakh tonnes and exports 3.29 lakh tonnes, with variations of (+) 2.28 per cent and (+) 5.11 per cent, respectively compared to February 2004.

Containers handled during February had been 25,576 TEUs against 22,192 TEUs, an increase of 15.25 per cent. During February, 126 cargo vessels have been handled against 113 cargo vessels, an increase of 11.50 per cent, the TPT press release said.
