Industries confident of action on proposed Coimbatore IT park

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore , March 7

THOUGH there is no definite clue yet on when the work on the proposed IT park would commence, industry associations are confident of witnessing some activity on the site soon.

The District Health Department, had, in September last, transferred about 30 acres of land in the Coimbatore Medical College Campus to Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot), the nodal agency for promoting the park. But for transfer of the proposed site from one department to another, nothing much happened.

Almost six months later, Government officials and the State IT Secretary, Mr Vivek Harinarain, have reiterated their commitment for the early commissioning of the project in the land earmarked for the purpose. Mr Harinarain had recently instructed the officials to furnish all the details on power and water availability, drainage facility and access points.

Based on the inputs, a site plan is expected to be drawn.

After resolving such preliminary issues, the work on the project is expected to start by December.
