Spices & Condiments Info-Tech - Internet Spices Board launches worldwide direct sale Our Bureau
Kochi , March 6 THE awards for excellence in production and export of spices of the Spices Board were presented to the winners by the Kerala Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, here. At the function, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the re-constructed Web site of the Spices Board, besides launching the worldwide direct sale of premium category of Indian spices under a brand created and registered by the Board. The awards were for cardamom growers, both small and large, and vanilla. The cardamom award 2002-03 (first prize) went to Mr P.N. Surulivel, of PNS Estate, Sasthanada, Kumily, while that for 2003-04, went to Mr Shome Thomas, Tottachery Estate, Kumily. The second prize was bagged by Mr H.R. Balakrishna of Saklespur (Karnataka) and Mr Shaji Joseph of Kumily, Mr N. Jayasevlan, Mr N. Gnanaselvan and Mr N. Arutchelvan from Cumbum and Mr Peter Mathias of S.L. Mathias and Sons, Chicmagalur. The first prize winner in the large cardamom category for 2002-03 was Mr Nar Bahadur Tamlaing, Hee Gaon, West Sikkim, while the second price went to Mr Nima Sherpa of Kalimpong,West Bengal, and Mr Prezing Bhutia of Kabi, North Sikkim. The first prize for 2003-04 went to Mr Lakpa Temba Sherpa of Kalimpong, while Mr Passang Tencho Lepcha of Phamtam, North Sikkim, and Mr Lafuti Sherpa of Lingtam, East Sikkim, won the second prize. In vanilla, the first prize for 2002-03 was bagged by Mr H.B. Surendra Chithgal of Basavani, Shimoga district of Karanataka, while Mr Ramachandra Venketaramana Hegde of Sirsi, Karnataka, and Mr M.N. Chandranath of Wayanad, Kerala won second prize. The first prize for 2003-04 went to Mr Suresh Shantharam Hegde of Sirsi. The second prize went to Mr Chandranath and Mr K. Suryanaryana of Chikmagalur. Awards for excellence in spices exports for 2002-03 were won by Synthite Industrial Chemicals, Kolencherry, top-most exporter with 50 per cent of exports of spice extracts from India and AVT McCormick Ingredients Pvt Ltd, South Vazhakulam, top most exporters of ground spices. Lakshmi Exports Coimbatore bagged the trophy for topmost exporter of whole spices. Kishor Spices Company of Kochi won the award for outstanding export performance in pepper for 2002-03 while SPG Ramasamy Nadar & Sons Virudhunagar, bagged the award for outstanding export performance in cardamom (small). In the large cardamom exports, Shivanditta Mal & Co of Amritsar won the award whileP.C. Kannan & Co of Viruthunagar bagged the award for coriander exports and M/s Jabs Exports of Navi Mumbai for cumin exports. The Peermade Development Society (PDS) won the award for outstanding export of organic spices while Eastern Foods of Adimaly (both Kerala) in export of spices in consumer packs. Quality Exports, Rajapalayam, won the special export award for women Entrepreneur for 2002-03.
