Hyderabad , Feb.18

FIRST Indian Corporation, a subsidiary of the $6.72-billion First American Group, a Fortune 500 company, having operations in Hyderabad and Bangalore, has opened its software development centre in the country.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday to announce the opening of its centre, the President of First Indian LLC, Mr Peter W. Gorrie, said: "We plan to increase staff from 1,500 to 4,200 in the near term. We are exploring the possibility of another centre in India, possibly Chennai, Mysore or Mangalore.''

"The operations at Hyderabad and Bangalore would be expanded ," he said.

"First American Corporation is America's largest data provider and is exploring opportunities with various Governmental and private sector groups to introduce products such as title assurance and credit reporting into the business infrastructure of India," he said.

"Thus, we have so far invested about $45 million in Indian operations and most of it in the last two years and would not like to comment on future investments for non-disclosure-related issues. Being a large corporation, we have the ability to quickly ramp up and invest as per business requirements," Mr Gorrie said.

The Hyderabad centre would handle the entire spectrum of software development including quality assurance and testing. From about 2-lakh sq.ft of office space, the company plans to take this up to 3-lakh to accommodate new streams.

The Country Manager of First Indian, Mr.Anoop Hedge, said: "First India Hyderabad centre has been supporting multiple First American companies in the US through call centre operations, production and backoffice services. The company had acquired Data Tree in October 2002 and has since expanded these centres."
