Bombardier to hire 350 engineers

BOMBARDIER Transportation plans to hire about 350 engineers for its Hyderabad-based design centre and take the total staff strength to 600 by 2006.

"By the end of this year, we plan to have about 300 engineers at the Hyderabad centre, up from the present level of about 250 and subsequently take the total to 600 the year after," said the Bombardier Transportation's Vice-President and Chief Technical Officer (CTO), Mr Ake Weinberg.

The Hyderabad centre would work on design engineering aspects of the company's various projects, primarily outside India. "Ninety-nine per cent of our work done at Hyderabad is export-oriented," he said. Mr Weinberg, however, declined to divulge the investment details of his company.

He also said that Bombardier would seeking some long term contracts from the Indian market that include those of mass rapid transport system.
