Airlines France's ATR plans to set up logistics centre Our Bureau
Bangalore , Feb. 9 FRANCE-based turboprop aircraft giant ATR has said that it is planning to set up a maintenance and logistics centre in India. "We are looking at the possibility of setting up a maintenance and logistics facility in India," the ATR Chief Executive Officer, Mr Filippo Bagnato, told newspersons at the Aero India 2005. Mr Bagnato said ATR is setting up a training centre for pilots in association with one of its customers, Air Deccan, this year. "We will train pilots there, which will bring down the time and cost of training them elsewhere." He said initially, ATR will manage the pilot training centre and later the Indian partner will manage it entirely. Mr Bagnato said that as per ATR's forecast, India would require 150 turboprops during the next 10 years. "The Indian market is growing very quickly and the country is one of the most important markets for us," he added. He said that while the world traffic would grow 5 per cent in the next three years, the Asian region would grow between seven and eight per cent. He said there would be no changes in oil prices for another few years. "After the declaration of Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, we expect oil prices to remain high." He said 2004 showed a slight sign of recovery after difficult years (2002 and 2003).
