OVER 600 leading scientists and technologists belonging to different fields of activity are converging here in connection with Prithvi 2005, a 10-day global eco-meet, which gets under way from February 19.
About 3,000 delegates are expected to attend the event, said Dr C. Suresh Kumar, Organising Secretary, Prithvi 2005. Ten international seminars will be held simultaneously in five venues from February 20-25.
The uniqueness of this global eco-meet is the fact that it strives to focus on the people who have devoted their life and career to the development of alternative technologies, away from the focus of mainstream research and solutions, Dr Suresh Kumar said.
The speakers will deliberate on nine major themes identified for the event: Eco-friendly lifestyles; non-conventional energy; sustainable agriculture; sustainable land use and waste management; water conservation; environment-friendly transportation; food; health and green pharmacy; and eco-tourism.
To enable a wider population of students and institutions to derive benefit from the event, all major speakers will be delivering lectures in 20 centres to spread the message of ecological sustenance.
