Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Feb. 8

THE rubber market maintained the steady trend on Tuesday. The undercurrent appeared firm as sellers retreated to the sidelines on promising overseas information. The covering groups were more active comparing to the previous sessions though VAT continued to cast its shadow over the market activities.

The NMCE rubber futures improved in tune with the bull run at TOCOM. The February contract was quoted at Rs 51.02 (50.58), March contract Rs 52.41 (52.07), April contract Rs 55.85 (55.58) and May contract at Rs 57.20 (56.91) per kg for RSS 4. The volumes also improved on short covering coupled with fresh buying from traders.

The spot rates per kg on Tuesday were: RSS-4: 51.75 (51.75); RSS-5: 50.50 (50.50); Ungraded: 49.50 (49.50); ISNR 20: 51 (51); & Latex 60%: 39 (39).
