Seminar on product patents

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Institute of Management in Kerala (IMK) under the University of Kerala is organising a one-day seminar titled `Cognizance 05' here on February 11.

Dr K.S. Chandrasekar, Organising Convenor, said the theme of the seminar would be `Product patents and their impact on the Indian pharmaceutical industry'.

Product patents will require Indian drug research to adopt a cheaper model different from the established Western model.

Globally, the industry has been moving away from a structure based on vertical integration to one based on core competencies, he said. India could convert its traditional strengths to it advantages and reap dividends. The seminar will focus on these issues with particular reference to the pharmaceutical industry. It will also bring out a booklet on what transpires at the deliberations for wider dissemination, Dr Chandrasekar added.
