Sugar 12 lakh t sugar released under free sale quota for Feb Our Bureau
New Delhi , Jan. 28 THE Government has released 12 lakh tonnes (lt) of sugar as free sale quota (FSQ) of mills for February. This includes the one-lt of additional release that was announced by the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Mr Sharad Pawar, earlier this month as part of the Government's efforts to contain the spiralling open market prices. The 12-lt FSQ for February is lower than the 14-lt that was released for January, including the additionally released quantity of two lt for the month. Officials said that since the Government has recently extended the validity period of the January FSQ to February 18, the actual sales taking place in the coming month would be higher than the 12-lt FSQ released for February. Including the 2.16-lt already released as levy quota for the public distribution system during February, the total sugar available for indigenous consumption would be at least 14.16 lakh tonnes.
