CHENNAI: A Fire broke out on Tuesday in Chennai Petroleum Corporation's crude oil storage tank area in Manali. It was brought under control within an hour and no one was injured. There was no damage to plant operations also, according to a company press release.

A company official said that the tank storage area is separated from the refinery area by a public road and it was sludge on the ground that caught fire from a spark from some welding that was being carried out in the area. The fire spread to the dried grass on the ground and this resulted in a thick column of smoke. It was contained in 20 minutes and fully brought under control within 30 minutes, the official said.
