Hyderabad , Jan. 25

THE National Institute of Smart Governance (NISG) has drawn up plans to broadbase the implementation of various e-governance projects across the country and is working on standardisation process.

It has identified certain key areas of citizen services, land records and transportation applications that could be replicated for rapid deployment and is working on ICT (information, communication and technology) architectures for e-governance applications.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Dr Maxine Olson, said growth and implementation of e-governance was far from satisfactory given the mismatch in potential and implementation.

She was addressing a press conference here along with the Chief Executive Officer of NISG, Mr J. Satyanarayana, and the President of Cisco Systems, India and SAARC, Mr Rangu Salgame, Chief Executive Officer of NISG, Mr J. Satyanarayana, and the President of Cisco Systems, India and SAARC, Mr Rangu Salgame.

Dr Olson said, "We are working towards a coordinated effort that would broadbase the application of various e-governance projects by pooling in resources."

Earlier, at New Models for eGovernance in South Asia and the World, Dr Olson, said, "Leveraging new opportunities provided by ICTs for bringing governments and Government services closer to the people will be the central focus."

Referring to the National eGovernance action plan, which would entail total investment of about Rs 12,400 crore through public-private participatory model, Mr Satyanarayana said that there is greater commitment on behalf of the Government to harness the power of technology for citizen-centric applications.
