A FULL-FLEDGED Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) University will be established in Hyderabad soon.
Endorsing the proposal, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, also agreed to provide 150 acres of land for the campus.
The Director of NIMS, Dr D. Prasada Rao, explained the salient features of the proposed university to the Chief Minister. It would have a medical college, reference laboratories, hospital, cardiac, renal and neuro centres. The necessary budget would be pooled from both the Centre and State Governments.
A level-one trauma centre is coming up at the present NIMS campus to cater to victims of accidents, natural calamities and disease epidemics.
The proposed university would also run courses in paramedical technology, nursing, pharmacy, biotechnology and other research areas, an official release said.
Referring to the pharmacy wing of NIMS, the Chief Minister expressed displeasure over the reported irregularities in supply and sales of medicines. He directed the Director to set right things before his immediate next visit.
"I do not want to hear any complaint regarding prices of medicines and exploitation of patients by pharmacy wing as in the past," he told Dr Prasada Rao.
