New Products & Services Sun launches second Malayalam channel Our Bureau
Chennai , Jan. 17 SUN Network has launched Kiran TV, its second Malayalam channel. The channel offers non-stop entertainment and supplements Surya TV, Sun Network's Malayalam channel, which offers mega-serials, talk shows, news and views. Official sources said that the programming on the new channel would be similar to SCV, the Tamil entertainment channel of Sun Network. Kiran TV will have 13 hours of live programming from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and a super-hit movie everyday. The sources said that the staple on this channel would be music and phone-in programmes. The channel expects to cut through the clutter of soap operas and create a niche by appealing to music lovers. They said that none of the other 10 Malayalam channels offered this kind of programming. There will no mega-serials on this channel, the sources said. In addition to Malayalam songs, there will also be a Tamil song programme on the channel. The sources said it was decided that Tamil songs would be a part of the programme mix, as Kerala has become an important market for Tamil songs. The other Malayalam channels are Asianet, Asianet News, Surya TV, Jeevan TV, Kairali TV, India Vision two channels, and Doordarshan two channels. Industry sources said that two more channels are likely to be launched soon.
