Bangalore , Jan. 12

IN spite of taking a beating from piracy in India, Autodesk is upbeat on the prospects offered by the Indian sub-continent. This sentiment was reflected with the visit of Ms Carol Bartz, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, Autodesk Inc, for the first time to India.

Optimistic about the Indian market, she said the company had huge growth plans to scale up operations in the country. due to the rapid growth being witnessed in areas like building, manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Ms Bartz said the company had firmed up plans to increase the headcount at the India operations. However, she refused to divulge further details. "As the company has tools for the infrastructure sector, it expects India to be its natural partner. Since there is widespread proficiency in English, we can market our products immediately," she said.

According to the company CEO, software piracy was the biggest challenge faced by Autodesk in India. The CAD software provider had an ongoing partnership with Symphony in India with the latter developing products for Autodesk.

She added the company has no plans to start a development centre in India.
