New Delhi , Jan. 9 THE Union Government on Sunday announced a personal accident insurance scheme for small growers in the plantation sector, under which a grower will be provided accident insurance coverage of Rs 25,000 for no premium. The Price Stabilisation Fund Trust has obtained a master policy under the `Janata Personal Accident Insurance' Scheme from the United India Insurance Company Ltd. Under this scheme, the entire premium has been paid by the Trust and the small growers in the plantation sector (tea, coffee, natural rubber and tobacco) and the member-growers need not pay any premium, according to an official release here. The PSF Trust has paid Rs 82.26 lakh to 8,266 coffee growers and Rs 9.3 lakh to 1,861 tea growers. Till December last year, 29,196 growers enrolled under the Price Stabilisation Fund Scheme. The Janata Personal Accident Insurance Scheme is in addition to the above financial assistance paid to the member-growers on the basis of the average price of the commodities. The procedure for submission and settlement of claims has been simplified, under which the Commodity Boards will receive the claim from the member-grower and forward it to the insurance company.
