Handicrafts exports up 30 pc

NEW DELHI: Handicrafts exports have registered a 30 per cent increase in the first nine months (April-December 2004) of the current fiscal to Rs 9,260 crore compared to Rs 7,114 crore recorded in the same period during the previous year.

In dollar terms, exports have recorded an increase of $484 million (31 per cent increase over 2003-04 performance).

Embroidered and crocheted goods showed the highest increase of 33 per cent for the period under review, followed by art metal wares (31 per cent) and wood wares (29 per cent), Mr Navrattan Samdaria, Chairman, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts, said in a statement issued here.
