Coimbatore to lend a `hand' to tsunami victims

R.Y. Narayanan

Coimbatore , Jan. 6

THE citizens of Coimbatore have formed a trust known as KARAM (Kovai Aid for Rehabilitation and Motivation) for tsunami-hit victms.

The trust has already collected donations amounting to more than Rs 1.65 crore with a major chunk of it — Rs 1 crore- coming from Pricol, with the workers and the management sharing the sum equally.

Ms Vanitha Mohan, Executive Director, Pricol and Managing Trustee of `Siruthuli,' speaking to Business Line, said the initiative to form KARAM has come not only from the patriarchs of the corporate sector in Coimbatore but from all sections of the society and the aim was to create a mechanism that would respond quickly to any natural calamity in a rational and practical manner.
