Fishermen to be rehabilitated: Minister

THE Union Minister for Shipping, Roads and Highways, Mr T.R. Baalu, has assured that the Central Government would take steps to rehabilitate the fishermen affected by tsunami in the coastal regions and help them resume their work soon.

Speaking to the mediapersons at Tuticorin, the Minister said that the Disaster Management Cell constituted recently under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, would analyse the feedback from State Governments and decide on the quantum of relief to fishermen.

He further said that a makeshift bridge would be constructed at Manakudi, washed away earlier by the waves. On tsunami warning system, he informed that India would collaborate with other countries and the establishment of the system would cost at least Rs 125 crore.
