IA to operate 15 relief flights to Port Blair

INDIAN Airlines (IA) plans to operate 15 relief flights on Wednesday — seven from Chennai and eight from Kolkata — to Port Blair and back to rescue the large number of people stranded there. These flights will carry about 1,785 passengers, according to an airline press release.

As a consequence, many scheduled flights of Alliance Air will be cancelled.

These relief operations will continue as long as the need for them is felt, according to the release. IA has also decided to carry all relief material free of cost.

The airline operated three flights on Tuesday from Chennai and five from Kolkata to Port Blair and back, evacuating 952 people. The flights also carried relief material.
