THE President of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Dr Ramdas Pai, has said that more and more foreign universities may link up with Indian universities under the WTO regime, and they may offer foreign degrees to students in India.
Participating in an interactive session, organised by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in Mangalore, he said that very few foreign universities might come up in India under the WTO regime.
If an American university comes up in India, its fees will be around $15,000 a year, or if a person wants to study in the US, he/she will have to spend around $20,000 a year. However, institutions such as MAHE could offer same quality of education at $2,500 a year. With this the students could save a lot, he said.
Stressing the need for interaction between the industry and professional colleges, he said this would help both the sectors. He urged organisations such as KCCI and traders to take initiatives in this regard.
Dr Pai was conferred with the honorary membership of KCCI on the occasion.
