HP has 44.5 pc of storage pie: IDC

HEWLETT-Packard on Thursday said it has taken the top slot in external disk storage and total disk storage revenue in the third quarter of 2004 in the Indian market.

According to the latest International Data Corporation (IDC) report, the company has a total disk storage market share of 44.5 per cent of the terabytes sold in the Indian market.

In the external disk storage market, HP has recorded a market share of 29.3 per cent in terms of revenue and 40 per cent in terms of capacity, said a company press release. The IDC report said HP had a share of 30.7 per cent of the total network storage market in terms of revenue.

"The result of this quarter consolidates our position in the Indian market. We are achieving the targets we set and since our results are consistent with our strategy and new product offerings, we are looking to continue this momentum in the future," said Mr Avijit Basu, Country Manager, StorageWorks Division, HP India.

In Asia Pacific and Japan, the company's external storage market share stood at 23.9 per cent. For total storage, HP garnered 26 per cent of the market share. In terms of gigabyte capacity, HP is ahead of its competitors with 35.6 per cent of the market share in external storage, the release added.
