BONFIGLIOLI Transmissions Pvt Ltd, the 100 per cent subsidiary of the Bonfiglioli Group of Italy, plans to expand its existing capacity with an investment of Rs 20 crore.

The expansion process started three months ago and will be completed by April.

Mr M. Ganesh, CEO, Bonfiglioli Transmissions, said that the manufacturing facility at the SIDCO Industrial Estate at Thirumudivakkam near Chennai, was set up in 1999 with an investment of Rs 40 crore.

The factory manufactures precision gears such as the inline helical gear reducers, shaft mounted gearboxes, sub-assemblies of planetary drives for the mechanical power transmission industry.

About 55 per cent of these products are exported to West Asia , Africa including South Africa, South East Asia, South and Far East Countries. The company exports to the parent company, where the products are centrally warehoused and distributed to the European outlets.

The company also markets the entire range of products from its parent company in Italy.

Mr Ganesh said that the company was able to match the quality and cost competitiveness and delivery schedules of international competition. The focus of the company is to develop India as a global sourcing unit, he said.

Mr Ganesh said that this unit is the only manufacturing unit of the Bonfiglioli Group outside Italy. The company, however, does have assembly units in Australia, Europe, the UK, Canada and South Africa. The modular units are brought and assembled according to the customers' requirements.

The company is targeting a turnover of Euro 30 million in 2005 from the present Euro 20 million.

Bonfiglioli has its headquarters in Bologna in Italy and has over four decades of experience in manufacturing and marketing mechanical power transmission products.
