Mahesh Harilal

A potter working at the Keezhumad Khadi and Village Industries Cooperative Society. The society, which was floated 60 years ago as a service society, was converted into a production unit for flowerpots and roof-tiles in the '80s on a Rs 10-lakh loan from the Khadi Board. Now, five potter families are employed in the flowerpot unit and 22 workers in the tile factory. Even though the tile industry has stopped yielding returns for the Society, the flowerpots are fetching a livelihood for these craftsmen.
