Pesticides Icrisat plans research body for bio-pesticide Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Dec. 17 TWELVE private sector companies have agreed to become partners in the International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) - Private Sector Bio-pesticide Research Consortium, scheduled to start next month. Stating this at a press conference here on Wednesday, the Icrisat Director-General, Dr William Dar, said that the institute's existing Hybrid Research Consortium had grown to 29 private sector seed companies in India, Indonesia and Egypt. This was expected to generate $2.3 million over a period of five years. Dr Dar said that Icrisat's efforts in resource mobilisation were yielding results. In the current year, the institute had received pledges worth $15.4 million for 73 projects out of 114 proposals submitted. Currently, nearly two thirds of Icrisat's annual budget of $26 million was coming from special projects. The special project funding increased from $6 million in 2000 to $11 million last year. It was expected to surpass $13 million this year.
