THE second edition of BioAsia, the global bio-business forum, will be held in Hyderabad from February 10-12, the Andhra Pradesh Deputy Secretary and Director of Biotechnology, Industries & Commerce, Dr Ashok, announced here on Thursday.

Promoted by the State Government, Genome Valley and the Southern Chapter of All-India Biotech Association, the event would serve as a platform for companies, Government, thought leaders and technologists from across the globe to interact and further business interests.

According to him, BioAsia consists of an International conference, a Tradeshow, B2B Forum and a CEO Conclave. Over 60 exhibitors, 500 conference delegates, 70 internationally acclaimed speakers and 15,000 visitors from across the globe are expected to attend the event, Dr Ashok said.

The Chairman of Biotech Advisory Committee, Dr D. Balasubramanian, said the B2B Forum would focus on investment opportunities in the biopharmaceutical industry in the country.

According to Dr Ashok, venture capitalists, financial institutions and other investors were widely expected to participate in the forum. Delegates from 15 countries, including US, Germany, Italy, Pakistan, UK, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Iran have already confirmed their participation, he said.

The Chairman of All-India Biotech Association, Dr B.S. Bajaj, said BioAsia has emerged as one of the continent's important biotech events.

He said that leaders of delegation of 8 Asian countries who met during the last BioAsia had decided to form `Federation of Asian Biotech Associations' to create a common platform for development of biotechnology in Asian countries.

It would be launched at BioAsia 2005 and a Management Committee of 25 members would be formed with its Secretariat located at Hyderabad.
