General insurance employees to strike work on Dec 21

Our Bureau

Kochi , Dec. 10

OFFICERS and staff of four public sector general insurance companies across the country would strike work on December 21 to protest against the indifferent attitude of the managements towards wage revision, promotions and other pending issues.

According to Mr P.P. Mohanan, General Secretary, General Insurance Officers All India Association (GIOAIA), (Kerala unit), the wage pact has expired on July 31, 2002.

The discussions held by the General Insurance Public Sector Association (GIPSA) with the unions and associations in Hyderabad in November last had failed, as the management was not ready to revise their offer of 8.5 per cent increase.

He said that the Associations and Unions had rejected the offer.

The GIOAIA had submitted a ten-point memorandum on November 24 to the Union Finance Minister Mr P. Chidambaram, he added.
