Photonics meet in Kochi from Dec 9

NEST Photonics Pvt Ltd and the International School of Photonics (ISP), Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), will jointly organise Photonics 2004, the international conference on optoelectronics, fibre optics and photonics in Kochi between December 9 and 11.

All the previous photonics international conferences that wereheld once in two years have been organised at major metros such as Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, a press release said.

This is a major achievement for NeST, which is a Kochi-based global player in photonics business and for the International School of Photonics, the organisers said.

The conference will be inaugurated by Vice-Admiral Mr S.C.S. Bangara, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, on December 9 at 10 a.m. The conference will be held at the International Convention Centre, Hotel Le Meridien, Kochi.

Prof P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice-Chancellor of CUSAT, will preside over the function. Dr Javad Hassan, Chairman, NeST Group of companies, US, will give the keynote address. Mr N. Jehangir, Managing Director, NeST Group, will release the conference abstracts and Prof. C.P. Girijavallabhan, CUSAT, will release the CD on conference proceedings.

Photonics 2004 will provide a forum for interaction and exchange of ideas among delegates and participants from research institutions, universities, government organisations and industry. The organisers expect around 700 participants, including nearly 200 foreign delegates from countries such as the US, the UK, Japan, Canada, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Almost all the scientists and technocrats working on optical communication and technology area within the country will also be participating in this conference. This includes Government laboratories, academic institutes and private organisations.
