Railways seeks Rs 2,565-cr grant to expedite projects

THE Railway Ministry on Tuesday presented a Supplementary Demand for Grant of Rs 2,565.40 crore for accelerating various ongoing railway projects, including the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramullah rail line project.

A sum of Rs 1,028.40 crore has been sought under the Special Railway Safety fund for financing the project in Jammu and Kashmir and for accelerating the progress of various ongoing works.

These include funds for taking up certain ``out of turn'' works during 2004-05, which are regarded as ``new services/new instruments of service'', the Minister of State for Railways, Mr R. Velu, said while tabling the grants in both the Houses of Parliament.

The Ministry has also sought Rs 1,537 crore as capital expenditure for the current fiscal.
