Hyderabad , Dec. 1

ANDHRA Pradesh is among the top three States in utilising funds under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).

So far about 89 per cent of funds allocated to the State's Lok Sabha members and 82 per cent to its Rajya Sabha members have been utilised, the Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr Somnath Chatterjee told the State Minister for Planning, Information & Public Relations, Mr Mohd. Shabir Ali, during a video conference on Tuesday.

The State has a total of 60 MPs (42 in the Lok Sabha and 18 in the Rajya Sabha), and a total amount of Rs 120 crore is allocated under the scheme every year. Mr Ali informed the Speaker that the State Government recently launched the `Rajiv Internet Village' programme and was keen to take the benefits of IT to the grassroot level.

The Speaker launched a software by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Impleme- ntation that would enable people to know the progress of works undertaken through www.mplads.nic.in.
