IT cos indifferent to oil sector: Raha

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Dec. 1

THE ONGC Chairman & Managing Director, Mr Subir Raha, said here on Wednesday that domestic IT companies were "totally indifferent" to the software needs of the oil and gas sector and that they had taken "zero initiative" in this regard.

Speaking at the Infocom 2004 Conference & Exhibition here, Mr Raha said domestic IT companies were chasing easy revenue and were reluctant to invest time in developing software that would meet the specific requirements of oil and gas exploration and production. He said ONGC was open to the idea of leveraging its domain knowledge and partnering with domestic IT companies for setting up software and select hardware capabilities that would meet the specific requirements of oil and gas exploration and production. He called upon Indian software companies to develop algorithms and capabilities with "strategic implications" for the oil and gas sector.
