BANGALORE: Mr Ashok K.Baweja takes over as the new Chairman of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd on Wednesday (December 1). He succeeds Mr N.R.Mohanty, who has superannuated after heading the company since September 2001.

Mr Baweja joined the defence PSU as management trainee in 1972. As Director - Design & Development prior to his new appointment, he has stewarded some of HAL's major projects in recent years, including the indigenous advanced light helicopter (ALH) - which has been inducted into the armed forces - and the fast-track development of intermediate jet trainer (IJT). Mr Baweja has also initiated programmes for the light combat helicopter and the upgrading of the Jaguar Navwass, Lancer, Cheetah and MI-17, according to an official release here.
