Meeting with successful bidders soon on Delhi, Mumbai airports revamp

New Delhi , Nov. 29

THE proposed modernisation and restructuring of Delhi and Mumbai airports is all set to move ahead with the Government-appointed financial consultants scheduled to hold a pre-bid conference with the successful bidders soon.

"The meeting with the successful bidders will be held in early December, probably within the next 10-15 days. Based on the discussions at these meetings, the documents, including the draft concession agreement, will be concluded," the Secretary, Civil Aviation, Mr Ajay Prasad, said on Monday.

The Government had short-listed nine entities, which includes Reliance, L&T and the DLF group, as prospective bidders for taking up the revamp of the two airports.

Private airlines: On the issue of allowing private airlines to operate to more international destinations, Mr Prasad said that the Ministry had sought the views of other Ministries such as External Affairs, Commerce and Tourism, among others, and a final decision would be taken only after all the comments are received.

"We have to see what emerges out of the consultative process. All I can say is that the whole process should not take too long," Mr Prasad said.

AI plans: The Government has also asked Air India to draw up its corporate plans for the next two years outlining how many more routes and aircraft it proposes to induct even as it considers the proposal to allow private airlines to fly to more international destinations.

IA proposal: Asked when Indian Airlines would be in a position to induct new aircraft, Mr Prasad said that with the Public Investment Board clearing IA's 43 aircraft acquisition proposal, the airline should be able to begin price negotiations soon.

"We hope to complete the process of placing orders for the IA aircraft acquisition before the end of this financial year itself," he said.

Besides, to ensure that the country has a civil aviation policy, a meeting with the stakeholders, including the airline and cargo operators, among others, is scheduled to be held on December 2.
