Cultivation TN: Turn-system for irrigation from Dec 1 Our Correspondent
MADURAI: Turn-system for irrigation is to be introduced from December 1 in the double-crop and single-crop areas of the Periyar Main Canal and the Tirumangalam Main Canal in the district, sources in the Public Works Department said, here. According to the Periyar-Vaigai Basin Circle Executive Engineer, Mr K. Pandikaruppanan, this time the monsoon rain had not been up to the mark, resulting in insufficient storage in dams. A discharge of 2,400 cusecs of water would be released for five days on December 1 and the release would be closed for the next four days and the farmers should utilise the water judiciously.
