SRL Ranbaxy concludes pathological trials for 2 foreign hospitals

New Delhi , Nov. 23

SRL Ranbaxy recently completed pathological trials for two foreign hospitals - one each in the UK and West Asia - as part of its initiative to get hospitals abroad to outsource work to India.

Speaking on the sidelines of a FICCI conference, Mr Shivinder Singh, Chairman of FICCI's Health Services Committee and Joint Managing Director of Fortis Healthcare Ltd, said, "We have recently concluded two trials and are awaiting commercialisation." Mr Singh, who is also on the board of SRL, was however not willing to divulge the names of the hospitals.

Earlier, he said that a study had showed that NHS in the UK spent 2 billion on pathology every year. "If 40 per cent of this work was outsourced to India, it would substantially reduce the costs to NHS. India had three accredited pathology laboratories to carry out the tests and could also become a destination for patients seeking quick and inexpensive health care, given the waiting periods in British hospitals," he said.

According to Baroness Margaret Jay, former Health Minister of the UK, said the NHS treated 90 per cent of patients in Britain while private health care providers handled just 10 per cent of the total cases. "There were three areas where Indian health care providers could partner with the British system. These were manpower, pharmaceuticals business and information technology," she added.
