The Hindu Business Line : South China commodities exhibition in Dec

THE China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT — equivalent to the Indian Ministry of Commerce) is back in India for the `South China Commodities (Mumbai) Exhibition 2004'.

This follows the successful `The First China Guangdong Products Exhibition' held in March 2004, which generated an on-the-spot business of Rs 80 crore, according to release.

The event is organised by the CCPIT and co-organised by the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce.

Worldex GEC (India) has been appointed to manage this event.

The exhibition will be opened for business visitors on December 9, 10 and 11 and for general visitors on December 12 at Hotel Grand Hyatt (Santacruz, Mumbai).

A trade seminar on `How to develop India-China Trade' will be held on December 10 on issues related to industry, market trends, product development and related aspects.

The event will present a diversified product portfolio of commodities ranging from daily commodity items, minerals, iron ore, gift items, foodstuff, textiles, hand-embroidered fabrics, garments, chemicals, leather products, stationery, toys, machinery to home appliances, kitchenware and kitchen appliances, electrical and lighting products, consumer electronics, sound and audio/visual equipments, telecommunications, architectural products, building materials, and footwear.

India-China bilateral trade reached a new high of $7.59 billion in the year 2003, representing an increase of 53 per cent over the previous year.

According to rough estimates, Indo-China trade is set to cross $10 billion by 2005 and probably $20 billion by 2008.
