Hardware Marketing - New Products & Services Samsung unveils Pleomax range Our Bureau
Kolkata , Nov. 19 SAMSUNG Corporation today announced the launch of the Samsung Pleomax brand of optical storage media products, imaging supplies, portable products and computer peripherals in the Indian market. The Pleomax brand has already been launched in Korea, Japan and the European Union. After India, the Pleomax range would be launched in Russia, according to Mr S.Y. Kim, General Manager of the Pleomax team. Speaking to newspersons, Mr Kim said that the size of the storage media market in the organised sector in India has been pegged at Rs 250 crore. Over time, Samsung hopes to garner 25 per cent share of this market. Since the company has just entered the PC peripherals market, it is looking at garnering a 15 per cent share of the overall market by 2005. Veeline Ltd has been appointed national distributor for the Pleomax range of products, which will be retailed across the country at competitive prices. However, company officials present at the news conference refused to provide details of marketing and promotional plans. According to Mr Kim, Pleomax has been created strategically to appeal to the younger target consumers by providing IT media and consumables that can be used "easily with fun in daily life". Such a positioning has worked in Korea and Germany and Samsung is hopeful that the strategy works in India as well, he said.
